Jeronimos Monastery in Lisbon, Portgugal. Built over the span of 100 years throughout the 1500s near the launch site of Vasco da Gama's first journey. This photo depicts what is known as Manueline Ornamentation, after Manuel I, King of Portugal from 1495 to 1521, who, in 1496, petitioned the Holy See for permission to build the monastery on this site.
